Application for the Establishment of a Danger Area
The Swedish Transport Agency may designate an area as a Danger Area if there is a risk to aviation safety that does not justify the establishment of a restricted area.
Danger areas are typically established to protect aircraft from hazards such as ground-to-air or air-to-air firing, bombing, blasting, target towing, or other aviation-related risks over international waters. They may also be established for certain Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operations conducted Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) below 120 metres above ground level (AGL).
A complete application must be submitted to the Swedish Transport Agency no later than seven weeks prior to the intended start date of the danger area.

Application Requirements
Your application must include the following mandatory information:
1. Contact Information
Provide the following details of the organisation or authority submitting the application:
- Name of the organisation or authority
- Address, postal code, and city
- Telephone number, email address, and designated contact person
2. Planned Activity
Describe the nature of the planned activity to be carried out within the proposed area.
3. Justification
State the reasons why a dangerarea is necessary and what objective or purpose it is intended to serve.
4. Area Information
4.1 Coordinates and Buffer Zone
- Describe the area using coordinates in WGS84 format.
- Limit the number of coordinates to a maximum of 10 to define the area.
- Provide the coordinates in clockwise order, starting from the north-westernmost point.
- Example format: 625038N0124302E - 624756N0125849E - 624213N0125126E - 624738N0124025E - 625038N0124302E
- For drone (UAS) operations, apply a safety buffer of 1 nautical mile (NM) around the area.
- The LFV Drone Map tool is recommended for creating and converting coordinates.
4.2 Altitude and Vertical Buffer
- Specify the maximum altitude of the area in feet AMSL (Above Mean Sea Level).
- For UAS/drone operations, add a vertical safety buffer of 500 feet (150 metres) to the operational height.
5. Period of Validity
Provide the start and end date and time in UTC format, e.g. 2022-01-01 0900 – 2022-12-31 2359.
For continuous validity between two dates, state H24.
Example schedule:
- MON 0900–1600
- TUE 0900–1300
- WED 0800–1300
- THU N/A
- FRI 1100–1400
6. Risk Mitigation Measures (mandatory only for UAS operations)
Provide a detailed description of the risk mitigation measures in place, both organizational and onboard the UAV.
Examples include:
- ADS-B IN and/or OUT transponder
- Electronic conspicuity capabilities
- Geofencing/geocage technology
- Use of local height references
- Position lights
- Active system monitoring
- Operational authorization(s)
- Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and Detect-and-Avoid measures
- Communication protocols with other aircraft/pilots
7. Supporting Documentation
- Attach a map of the proposed area (e.g. created using the LFV Drone Map).
- For drone operations, include the operational authorisation (or proof of application of an operational authorisation) in accordance with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 of 24 May 2019 on the rules and procedures for the operation of unmanned aircraft.
- Include any additional relevant information that may assist in processing and assesing the application.
8. Coordination
If coordination has taken place with other authorities, stakeholders, or operators potentially affected by the proposed restriction, specify:
- Who was contacted
- Their contact details
- The outcome of the coordination
Recommended Additional Information
The following information should be included in the application, where applicable:
9. Name of the Area
Propose a name for the danger area. The name should have a clear geographical connection to the location.
