Regulatory function
The Swedish Transport Agency shall check that the areas being supervised (organization or individual) meet the requirements set by laws and regulations. If we find any deficiencies, we can order those responsible to correct it. We may also impose a fine.
We have a risk-based approach to supervision. This means that we focus our resources where they can be the most effective.
Areas of supervision:
- Allocation of capacity
- Charges
- Services
- Railway network descriptions
- Separate accounting
One example of supervision is when the Swedish Transport Agency checks that the infrastructure managers' network statements are consistent with applicable regulations. This in turn leads to a more efficient use of the network infrastructure and that transportation by rail can increase.
