Restrictions in the airspace and danger areas

The Swedish Transport Agency may issue regulations or, in individual cases, decide on airspace restrictions or prohibitions of aviation by establishing so-called restricted areas.
If the danger is not so severe that a restriction area needs to be established, the Swedish Transport Agency may instead issue regulations or, in an individual case, decide that an area shall be designated as a danger area.

Restriction areas may be established taking into account:

  • military operations,
  • public order and safety,
  • outdoor recreation, nature or environmental protection, or
  • the need to avoid disturbance at large public gatherings or major public events.

Application for permission to fly in a restriced area

You can apply for permission to fly within restricted areas.
For restricted areas where the Swedish Transport Agency is the competent authority, you may apply for permission via our website. Information about the responsible authority for each restriction area is available in AIP Sweden ENR 5.1 as well as via Luftfartsverket's service the Dronechart.

Application for establishment of a restricted area or a danger area

Applications for the establishment of a restricted area or a danger area must be submitted well in advance of the planned date of entry into force.
Information on how to apply can be found here.

Urgent cases

In urgent cases, such as major accidents, the matter is handled as follows:

During regular office hours
Swedish Transport Agency, Section for Airspace and Airports

Outside office hours
LFV’s Airspace Management Cell (AMC), which is staffed around the clock.

Decision and publication

The Swedish Transport Agency is responsible for decisions on restricted areas and danger areas.
When such an area is established, the information is published through:

  • NOTAM, or
  • AIP Supplement, or
  • in AIP ENR 5.1

Restricted areas and danger areas that are relevant to unmanned aviation are also published on the Dronechart.
