Are you moving to Sweden? If so, you can have your vehicle classed
as relocation goods.
Note: If the vehicle has been brought in from
another EU country or EEA country (European Economic Area) -
vehicle with whole vehicle type approval - it is not usually
necessary to apply for the relocation goods option to be approved
at the technical inspection. This applies subject to the
precondition that the country of origin was an EU member or EEA
member when the vehicle was new. Nor is the relocation goods option
required for passenger cars with a model year of 1968 or older.
Check with a vehicle inspection company regarding your
particular vehicle before applying.
A vehicle classed as relocation goods is subject to certain
exemptions compared with the usual requirements at a registration
inspection. For example, another collision test applies. The
vehicle does not have to meet the more stringent requirements for
exhaust emissions imposed in Sweden from and including model year
1989. However, some environmental requirements that apply at annual
roadworthiness tests for older vehicles must be met. A vehicle
inspection company will be able to provide you with further
information.
A vehicle may be classed as relocation goods if
you
- have lived abroad for at least one year
- have been the owner of the vehicle for at least one year
- have used the vehicle abroad for at least one year.
Please note that a classification of your
vehicle as relocation goods only is possible as long as no
more than twelve months has passed since the vehicle's arrival in
Sweden.
Besides the usual documents, you will need to have the decision
regarding relocation goods from the Swedish Transport Agency with
you at the registration inspection.
When applying for the import category relocation goods, you will
be asked to pay an additional fee of SEK 600. An invoice regarding
this fee will be sent to you as soon as we have received your
application. Should the application be denied, the fee will not be
repaid.
Vehicles brought in as relocation goods only need to meet
the environmental requirements that apply at roadworthiness tests
for older vehicles.
For an application of relocation goods, the Swedish Transport
Agency only judge whether you meet the demands for that import
category or not. It is then up to a
vehicle inspection company to decide if the exemption is
needed for registration i Sweden for your vehicle. This means that
the exemption may not be used, even though the Swedish Transport
Agency has approved your application of it. That is because
vehicles are not supposed to be registered with exemptions they do
not need.
