Air Pollution
Prevention of air pollution includes ozone-depleting substances,
nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx) and volatile organic
compounds (VOC). It also contains restrictions against combustion
of ship generated of waste onboard ships in Swedish territorial
waters. Annex (VI) in MARPOL regulates emissions from these
substances to prevent and reduce the risk of negative environmental
impact from shipping. Annex VI in MARPOL has been incorporated in
SJÖFS 2007:15.
SJÖFS 2007:15 also addresses sulphur control areas in which
the maximum sulphur content in ship’s fuel is allowed to be
1.50 percent by mass. Further information can be found
under "Sulphur content in bunker oil".
