Unmanned aircraft

Design, manufacture, modification, maintenance and activities with civil UAS within Sweden is regulated by the Swedish Transport Agency´s regulations on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) – TSFS 2009:88. The regulation is translated in English and can be downloaded on this webpage. In the event of disagreement concerning the interpretation and content of the text, the printed Swedish version has priority.

An approval from Transportstyrelsen is needed if the unmanned aircraft is used for or is designed for:

  1. testing or research,
  2. commercial purposes, which includes all types of activities for which remuneration is received for work carried out,
  3. professional occupation or similar activities not considered as recreation, or
  4. flight beyond the visual line of sight of the pilot.

For flights within an airport control zone an approval is needed from Air Traffic Control.

For information on airports and control zones exist.

For aerial photography an approval might be needed from Lantmäteriet (Land Survey).
