Inherited property
Have you received your vehicle through an inheritance? In that case
you have the possibility to utilize certain exemptions at the
registration inspection. The first step is to apply for the import
category inherited property in connection with the verification of
origin.
Your vehicle is part of an inheritance from a deceased person
that was living abroad. You will have to send us documentation that
proves this, for instance a will or an estate inventory. You should
also send us a copy of the death certificate.
If you categorize your vehicle as inherited property, it is
subject to certain exemptions at the registration
inspection compared with the usual requirements. The vehicle
does not have to meet the more stringent requirements for exhaust
emissions imposed in Sweden from and including model year 1989.
However, some environmental requirements that apply at annual
roadworthiness tests for older vehicles must be met. A vehicle
inspection company will be able to provide you with further
information.
When applying for the import category inherited property, you
will be asked to pay an additional fee of SEK 600. An invoice
regarding this fee will be sent to you as soon as we have received
your application. Should the application be denied, the fee will
not be repaid.
